Support Units

Bailiff Team
The Bailiff Team consist of sworn deputies that are assigned to work the various courtrooms which consist of Superior Court, District Court, Support Court, Juvenile Court, and Administrative Court within the court system governing the cities and towns located within the geographical area of Iredell County, North Carolina.

The main court house for Iredell County is located in Statesville, North Carolina. In addition, the bailiff team covers courtrooms located in Mooresville, North Carolina, which is also part of the Iredell County Court System.

Inmate Road Crews
The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Detention facility also provides a service to the citizens of Iredell County which include the cleaning of trash and debris from the roadsides by utilizing inmate labor in the form of “Inmate road crews” that are supervised by sworn detention personnel that are assigned to the road crews.

The "Inmate Road Crew” works everyday, weather permitting, picking up trash and debris along the roadsides of Iredell County. The "Inmate Road Crew” is also utilized to provide labor for other projects throughout county government such as assisting probation and parole, parks and recreation and other community service groups and agencies.

Operational Teams
The 4 Operational Teams of detention facility work rotating shifts within the facility and are directly responsible for the day to day operation of maintaining the safety and security of the facility and the direct supervision of inmates housed within the facility.

In addition, a Sergeant and Corporal are assigned to the team. The Corporal provides that each team has a back up supervisor in the event the Sergeant is unavailable or is involved with other duties, such as special operations.

Each team within the detention facility consists of both male and female officers that hold sworn deputy or a non-sworn detention officer classification.

All sworn and non-sworn officers assigned to the detention facility must complete a 5-week Detention Officer Certification Course within the 1st year of employment. This is a mandatory requirement under Sheriff’s Training and Standards in Raleigh, North Carolina, for any officer working within the confines of a detention facility.

Prisoner Transport
The Prisoner Transport Team is responsible for all prisoner transportation to and from the Iredell County Detention Center to various other detention and correctional facilities throughout North Carolina.

Support Team
The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Detention Facility Support Team consists of sworn, non-sworn detention officers as well as civilian personnel.

The Support Team is responsible for administrative secretary/receptionist duties and quality control procedures for officers, as well as a detention officer field training program. The Records Section handles all legal records dealing with the operation of the facility at the local and state levels, as well as court documents. Other duties include general everyday cleaning and daily maintenance of the detention center and managing the detention center commissary, which includes inmate fund accounts along with the inmate library and providing other vital inmate services.
