Suspect arrested for robbery with a dangerous weapon and multiple other offenses

Sheriff Darren Campbell said: On July 14, 2017 the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office received information about a wanted person in an Armed Robbery and attempted Armed Robbery that occurred in Weaverville N.C. and Gaffney S.C.

Other information was gathered from a news Agency that received a phone call from a man saying he was Michael. The man confessed to the news station that he had robbed a Charlotte bank in January and then admitted to the robbery and attempted robbery in Weaverville and Gaffney. The man said he would rob another bank. The man also claimed that he had a gun, and would kill himself if confronted by law enforcement.

Once the Iredell County Sheriff’s received the alert he was immediately identified as William Michael Inscoe, a man who has a lengthy criminal history.  Iredell County Authorities based on the information started searching for the suspect. Utilizing all available tools Detectives and Deputies were able to gather information on the suspect and his possible location. The investigation lead to the area of US 21 south of Statesville. Deputies arrived in the area and located the suspect and his vehicle, but before he could be taken into custody the suspect ran on foot.

 A perimeter was established and Deputy Josh Watson of the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit arrived to track the suspect. Deputy Watson tracked the suspect approximately 20 minutes and Deputies were able to converge on and apprehend the suspect near the intersection of Cumberland Road and Watering Trough without incident.    

 The suspect complained of medical issues and he was transported to a local hospital to be examined by Medical Staff. Once released he has outstanding charges for multiple felonies in connection with Breaking and Entering and Larceny, Obtaining property by false pretense, and Larceny by employee in Iredell and Alexander County. He also will face charges in Connection with the Robbery in Weaverville NC. At the time of this release no warrants have been issued in the Gaffney S.C. case but charges are expected.

  Inscoe is currently out on Bond for an Armed Robbery in Mecklenburg County.  Inscoe is suspected of additional crimes in other jurisdictions where cases are still under investigation. Additional charges may come once those cases are completed.

 The suspect made bond in Mecklenburg County for Bank Robbery.  Since his release he has been driving a tan color 1982 Toyota truck. If anyone has any further information about other crimes Inscoe may be connected with please contact the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office.

  Inscoe has a criminal history that includes Multiple Felony Convictions for Larceny, Obtaining Property by False Pretense, Flee to elude, and Forgery. He had Misdemeanor convictions and charges in connection with Drugs, Larcenies, Statutory Rape, Possession of Burglary tools, traffic offences and other crimes.
