Work First Employment Services
Assesses educational and employment readiness needs. Assists
with education planning, attainment, job training, job seeking,
job retraining behaviors and removing barriers to education
and job goal attainment. Eligibility: Iredell County residents,
Work First Family Assistance recipients, ages
18 and up.
Certain Disabled (SCD)
A financial assistance program for eligible individuals.
There is no medical assistance with this program. Eligibility:
Iredell County residents; must have been denied disability
based on Social Security standards, but must meet disability
definition for this group; must meet income and asset guidelines;
ages 18-64
Work First Family Assistance
Financial assistance provided to help eligible families
meet living expenses (monthly check and Medicaid card).
Eligibility: Iredell County, child must live with specified
relative; be deprived of principal wage earner (death, absence,
incapacity, unemployment); must not receive SSI; child must
be 17 or younger
Medicaid For The Disabled (MAD)
Medicaid is a medical assistance program for low-income
people. Covered services can include hospital care, laboratory
and x-ray services, hospice and home health care, prescription
drugs, physician visits, skilled and intermediate nursing
home care, eyeglasses, dental services, and personal care
services in the home. Eligibility: Iredell County residents,
must be determined disabled by Social Security standards
and meet federal and state income and asset guidelines;
under age 65
Medicaid For The Blind (MAB)
Medicaid for the Blind is a medical assistance program
for low-income blind people. Covered services can include
hospital care, laboratory and x-ray services, hospice and
home health care, prescription drugs, physician visits,
skilled and intermediate nursing home care, eyeglasses,
dental services, and personal care services in the home.
Eligibility: Iredell County residents, must be legally blind
according to SSI definition; must meet income/asset guidelines
set by state and federal governments.
Special Assistance Programs (SAD; SAA)
Special Assistance for the Disabled (SAD) and Special Assistance
for the Aged (SAA) provide financial assistance for eligible
persons in licensed facilities. Medicaid services are also
provided. Eligibility: Must meet income and asset guidelines;
be a resident of domicilliary care facility or mental health
group facility; SSI eligible or ineligible; Special Assistance
for the Disabled: 18-64; Special Assistance for the Aged:
65 and over
AFDC Emergency Assistance Program
Provides emergency assistance to persons who are in need of help that would benefit a child. Types of assistance include shelter, utilities, and rent/eviction: cash payment made by vendor payment. Eligibility: Must be Iredell County resident; have at least once child under 18 in the home; be in a crisis situation; meet income and reserve requirements.
Medicare-Aid (MBQ)
Medicare-Aid covers Medicare co-payments for Medicare-eligible
individuals and pays the Medicare premiums. This program
pays only for services covered by Medicare. Eligibility:
Iredell County resident; must meet income and asset guidelines
based on state and federal regulations; must be receiving
Medicare benefits.
Medicaid
A medical assistance program for low-income people; services
include hospital care, lab and x-ray services, hospice and
hospital care, prescription drugs, physician visits, skilled/intermediate
nursing home care, eyeglasses, dental services, and personal
care services in the home; special programs include Medicaid

Differs for various Medicaid programs; individuals must
meet income guidelines.
Health Support
Facilitates access to and use of needed medical care. Administration
of state abortion funds. Family planning counseling including
certification of sterilization procedures. Eligibility:
Iredell County resident; must be income eligible for abortion
and sterilization
Food Stamps
Provides eligible households with food stamps one time
per month in order to purchase food for the family unit
and raise its nutritional level. Eligibility: Must be U.S.
citizens, resident of Iredell County, and meet income, resources,
and other regulations mandated by USDA.
Medicaid Transportation
Assists in arranging for and paying for transportation
to medical providers. Provision of transportation to medical
services by transportation aide. Eligibility: Iredell County
resident who is Medicaid eligible and certified
Child Support Enforcement Program
(IV-D)
Child support services are categorized into five major
areas: 1. Location of absent parents; 2. Establishment of
paternity for illegitimate children; 3. Establishment of
legal child support obligations; 4. Collections of child
support payments; 5. Enforcement of child support obligations.
Eligibility: Services provided
to any custodial parent regardless of income level, birth
to age 18; if child is emancipated, child support order
cannot be established; an application fee for custodial
parent not receiving public assistance
Child Protective Services
Receives referrals, assesses information in relation to
law; investigates allegations and determines if child is
abuse neglected, or dependent; if substantiated, provides
services to protect services to protect child and ameliorate
abusive/neglectful conditions. Eligibility: Iredell County
resident in need of protective services; birth to 18 years.
Adult Protective Services
Receives referrals and assesses need for protective services;
assists in alleviating conditions causing need for protection.
Eligibility: Iredell County resident
who is disabled, abused, neglected, or exploited and is
in need of agency intervention; 18 years and up.
Individual and Family Adjustment Counseling
Services
Assists in negotiating community resources; personal and
family counseling on relationships; interpersonal, marital,
family, and community. Eligibility: Iredell County resident
Problem Pregnancy Services
Assists in exploring alternatives: abortion, adoption,
keeping baby. Maternity home placement; prenatal care; locating;
community resources to support decision. Eligibility: Iredell
County resident
Homemaker Service
Demonstrates/teaches homemaking skills, child care, and
child development enhancement. Eligibility: Iredell County
resident; must be income eligible; sliding fee scale
Adoption
Accepts and prepares infants and children for placement;
evaluates families; prepares studies; seeks appropriate
children for placement; coordinates and supervises placements.
Eligibility: Iredell county resident, birth-18 years; 21
and older for adoptive parents
Child Foster Care
Evaluates families; assists in licensing process; makes
and supervises placements; monitors licensing standards
and assists in relicensing; determines child s need
for care; locates and arranges placement; supervises placement
and services to meet childs needs. Eligibility:
Iredell County resident, birth-21; foster parents 21-65.
Rest Home Care (Adult Foster Care)
Assists operator in licensing procedures for rest homes;
supervises facilities adherence to rest home standards;
assists families in locating nursing or rest home; assists
new residents adjustment to nursing or rest home;
provides financial assistance for nursing or rest home care.
Eligibility: Iredell County resident; must be financially
eligible for nursing/rest home care
Child Day Care
Assesses need and eligibility; helps arrange placement;
pays for care at approved facility. Eligibility: Iredell
County resident; must be income-eligible; child: birth and
up; vendor : 18 and up; sliding fee scale
Adult Day Care Service
Assesses need and eligibility; arranges placement and transportation;
pays for care at licensed facility. Eligibility: Iredell
County resident; must be income eligible; 18 and up; sliding
fee scale.
In-Home Aide Services
Assists with activities of daily living; house cleaning,
laundry, grocery shopping, food preparation, errands. Eligibility:
Elderly and/or handicapped Iredell County resident, must
be income eligible; sliding fee scale
