Clinical Services
Provides health screenings, treatments, counseling and education on disease prevention as well as dental care and nutrition services. Case Management services assist clients in identifying and obtaining needed health related services.
Child Health Clinic:
Well child clinic. Examinations are performed by appropriately trained and licensed providers. Abnormal findings are referred to appropriate providers.
- Comprehensive medical, social, developmental and nutritional history
- Exam includes age appropriate screening, vision screening, hearing screening and developmental screening
- Immunizations are updated
- Lab work conducted
- Insurance, Medicaid and sliding fee scale are accepted
- Guidance and education for parents
Child Service Coordination
Provides case management for children and families with special development needs.
- Identifies children at risk for learning and growth delays, disability, and chronic illness with case management to provide access to services that will allow them the maximum opportunity to reach their developmental potential.
- This service is available to Iredell County residents at risk less than 3 years of age; under age 5 who have diagnosed developmental delay/disability, chronic illness or social-emotional disorder.
Communicable Disease Control:
A communicable disease is an infectious disease that can be transmitted from one individual to another directly by contact or indirectly by fomites and vectors.
Promptly investigates disease outbreaks and unusual situations and implements control measures to minimize further transmission of disease.
- Monitors disease reporting by physicians and laboratories in order to detect trends and to assess the public health impact of diseases; provides communication between public health agencies, private physicians, and hospital and occupational infection control personnel, as an essential part of disease control efforts; explains health interventions an disseminates health essential part of disease control efforts; explains public health interventions and disseminates health education messages to the community and the media in order to enhance disease control efforts.
Oral Health Section:
The Oral Health Section exists for the purpose of educating citizens to achieve and maintain optimal oral health and t
o provide preventive and restorative clinical services.
Dental Clinic:
- Provides dental services, by appointment to children and a limited number of adult residents of Iredell County.
- Accepts Medicaid, North Carolina Health Choice, some private dental insurances and private pay based on a sliding fee scale.
- Offers limited restorative procedures and preventive services.
- Sedation is offered in this clinic.
Dental Screenings and Referrals:
- Targets elementary grades in the Iredell Statesville Schools and the Mooresville Graded School District.
- Sends referral letters to students who need dental care.
- Follows-up with phone calls to parent/guardian
- Provides services to schools within Iredell County upon request
Dental Health Education
- Dental health education is provided for second and fourth grades in the Iredell/Statesville Schools and Mooresville Graded School District. This classroom education includes a variety of topics to help children obtain better dental health. Importance of regular dental visits, using sealants and fluorides, improving or changing diets, and improving oral hygiene skills are examples of dental health information covered in the classroom.
- Toothbrushes are provided for all second graders. Floss is provided for fourth graders.
- Dental health education is offered to day cares and community groups upon request.
Family Planning
Provides annual physicals, contraceptive education and services to women of reproductive age.
- Detailed history, lab work and physical exam
- Education on birth control methods, breast self-exam, pelvic exams and sexually transmitted diseases.
- Counseling for related health problems
- Available methods include: Birth Control Pills, Depo Provera, Diaphragm, Spermicidal Foam, Birth Control Patches, IUD’s, Condoms and others by prescription
- An appointment is necessary.
- By ruling of the NC Legislature, teenagers may be seen in clinic without parental consent.
- Insurance, Medicaid and private pay on a sliding scale are accepted.
General Clinic Services
Provides education and counseling about family planning and maternal health services for women at risk for pregnancy; provides private pay TB skin testing as needed for work and school.

Immunizations
Provides vaccines to any infant, child or adult needing immunizations required by North Carolina Immunization Law. There is no charge for state provided vaccines.
- Provide the Influenza vaccine to anyone 6 months of age or older.
- Provide the Pneumococcal vaccine to anyone age 65 and older or anyone between the ages of 2 and 65, who has a chronic medical condition or meet specific guidelines.
- Other vaccines available for a fee include:
- Meningococcal (Meningitis)
- Hepatitis B (If not qualified for state vaccine)
- Hepatitis A (If not qualified for state vaccine)
- MMR (if not qualified for state vaccine)
- Varicella (Chickenpox) for age 19 and older
- IPV (Polio)
- An appointment is needed (walk-ins may be seen if clinic schedule allows)
- Services are provided in Statesville and Mooresville
- Information for travelers is provided through CDC resources
- Vaccine information resources provided as requested
Maternal Care Coordination:
Provides formal case management services to eligible women during and after pregnancy and intervention as early in pregnancy as possible to promote healthy pregnancy and positive birth outcomes.

Migrant and Refugee Health
Assists migrant or refugees in locating sources of health care.
- Assist refugee or migrant in finding medical care
- Review records to assure that migrant or refugee is free of communicable disease and appropriately vaccinated
Prenatal Clinic
Clinic established to help women get care during pregnancy.
- History, lab work and physical exam. Also offer counseling, iron and vitamins
- Maternity Care Coordination by a social worker also available at each visit
- Prenatal education classes and WIC services are provided at each visit
- Eligibility is determined by household income and number in household
- Medicaid, insurance and sliding fee scale accepted
- Services offered in Statesville only
- An appointment is necessary
Sickle Cell Program
Provides free sickle cell testing for clients who self refer to ICHD for testing, of persons enrolled in health department programs and for those identified by private physicians as well. Testing also provides information concerning the reproductive risks for carriers of Sickle Cell traits or other traits that can affect their offspring; providing clients with the facts they need to make informed decisions regarding reproduction.

SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) Program:
Counseling for families who have experienced a SIDS death; education for professional and lay groups. SIDS Counselors at county health departments are a resource to families, caregivers, health professionals, and first responders in North Carolina. They have received special training about SIDS and grief. In addition to a doctor or pastor, SIDS Counselors can help families cope with their sorrow and loss.
STD (Sexually Transmitted Disease) Clinic:
Provides its clients with the most up-to-date assessment and treatment possible for sexually transmitted diseases.
- Provide testing, diagnosis and treatment for a variety of sexually transmitted diseases.
- Also provide risk reduction and prevention counseling
- Additional lab test and education for HIV+ clients as needed.
- Clinic operates daily in Statesville and at different times throughout the week in Mooresville
- Appointments are necessary
- By ruling of the NC Legislature, teenagers may be seen in clinic without parental consent
- No charge for these services.
HIV Testing
- Provide HIV testing and pre-test and post-test counseling
- An appointment is necessary. Services available during STD clinic hours
- No charge for this service. All services are confidential
- Services provided in Statesville and Mooresville
Tuberculosis (TB) Program:
Provides follow-up and treatment for people with TB and their contacts. This is not a service for immigration purposes.
- Quickly diagnose and treat tuberculosis disease
- Promptly investigate all suspected exposures to each and every case of TB
- Strongly encourage preventive treatment for people who are at risk of developing TB disease
- Provides state-supplied TB medications to clients under case management by the TB program
WIC (Women, Infant and Children) Nutrition Services:
WIC provides services for women who are pregnant, breast-feeding, or who have just had a baby, and who meet both income and medical and/or nutritional eligibility requirements. Services are also available to children up to 5 years of age, who meet eligibility requirements. WIC prescribes food vouchers for nutrient dense foods.

- Programs:
Free breast pump rental
Vitamin for breast-feeding infants
Farmers Market Program- fresh fruit and vegetable vouchers for clients to use during summer months, redeemable at a participating local Farmers Market when state funds are available.
- Appointments are necessary for all WIC services
