Benefit Information

Pay Periods: County employees are paid every two weeks (in arrears). Direct deposit is required.

Holidays: The County offers 11 or 12 days of paid holidays.  See Holiday schedule.

Vacation (Annual) Leave: Full-time employees earn from 10-24 days annually based on years of service. There is a 240 hour maximum annual accumulation; however, up to 80 hours in excess of 240 as of December 31 each year are converted to sick leave hours.

Paid Sick Leave: Full-time employees earn one day (8 hours) of sick leave per month, with the unused accumulation applying toward retirement benefits after meeting basic retirement qualifications. Sick leave from other NC and Local Governments in the retirement system may be transferred to the County.

Health Care: Major Medical benefits are provided, at no cost to employees participating in our wellness program, for employees occupying budgeted positions scheduled to work at least 30 hours per week. Coverage is available, at current group rates, for eligible dependents. We offer two choices through Cigna: Open Access Plus Copay Plan (See detailed benefit information) and Health Savings Account Open Access Plan (See detailed benefit information).

Dental Care: Employees and dependents have the option of participating in a dental plan through Ameritas.  The plan provides 100% of twice annual preventive care procedures and, after an annual deductible, the plan pays 80% of routine procedures and 50% of non routine procedures. Vision Care: Employees and dependents have the option to participate in a vision plan through Community Eye Care. Community Eye Care offers a Comprehensive Plan which includes an annual eye exam, annual contact lens fitting and materials or an Eye Wear Plan which covers materials only.  See detailed benefit information.

Flexible Spending Accounts: Pre-tax accounts which can be used to pay for out-of-pocket medical, dental, vision or dependent care expenses, or uninsured medical, dental, or vision expenses. See detailed benefit information.

Supplemental Cancer Insurance: Optional coverage plans through payroll deduction are available at a nominal cost. See detailed benefit information.

Short Term Disability: Short-term disability benefits are available through payroll deduction.  Benefits begin on the first day if you are disabled due to an accident and on the eighth day if you are disabled due to sickness. You may choose to insure up to 70% of your income, up to a maximum of $2,000 per month.  Income will be provided for 13 weeks. See detailed benefit information.

Long Term Disability: Long-term disability benefits are available through payroll deduction. Benefits begin after 90 days of being disabled due to an accident or sickness (5 years will be the maximum length of time you will get paid from this policy). You will have benefit income options in $500 increments, not to exceed 60% of your salary. There is a lump sum benefit of $10,000 attached to the LTD that will pay directly to you when you are placed out of work by a physician. See detailed benefit information.

Term Life Insurance: The County provides life insurance equal to 1 times annual salary up to $75,000.  Optional dependent and term life insurance policies are available through payroll deduction; rates vary with the level of coverage selected.  See detailed benefit information.

Whole Life Insurance – Whole life insurance is available through payroll deduction.  Rates vary with the level of coverage selected.   See detailed benefit information.

Accidental Death and Dismemberment Insurance - The County makes available through payroll deduction coverage for accidental death or dismemberment.  Rates vary with the level of coverage selected.  See detailed benefit information.

Group Accident Insurance: Group accident insurance pays a benefit for the treatment of injuries suffered as the result of a covered accident.  Benefits are paid regardless of any other health insurance benefits the insured may receive. See detailed benefit information.

Retirement: For employees occupying budgeted positions assigned to work 20 hours per week or more, participation in the NC Local Governmental Employee’s Retirement System (NCLGERS) is required. The employee’s contribution is 6% of salary, which is tax deferred, and the County contributes an actuarially determined amount. After (5) years of credible service, you become fully vested in the retirement system.  The County also provides, through the Retirement System, a Death Benefit equal to one times your annual salary (minimum $25,000 and maximum $50,000).  In addition to membership in the NCLGERS, employees are part of the County's 401K plan. Iredell County contributes 5% of gross wages to this account with the option for employees to make additional contributions.


Employee Assistance Program: Counseling Services are available to all County employees and eligible dependents to assist in the treatment of problems. Services are provided in a private and confidential setting. The County provides coverage for the first three visits.  These services are provided through the following agencies:

Fitness Centers: Iredell County employees are offered a discounted rate when joining The City of Statesville’s Fitness Center and may pay for their membership through payroll deduction. Discounted membership rates are also available at 24/7 Total Fitness and Rock Fitness. 

Credit Union: The North Carolina Local Government Employees' Federal Credit Union offers a variety of savings and other financial plans including direct deposit of payroll checks. You must personally contact the Credit Union (704-873-1405) to arrange these services. Services are administered through the State Employees Credit Union.  Services are also available through the Piedmont Credit Union (704-873-6400).
