Bird Watch at Tanglewood

Have you ever wanted to be able to identify the bird sitting outside your kitchen window? Join us for a trip to Tanglewood and learn to identify birds common to our area. All you need is a pair of binoculars and walking shoes.
NC Zoo

Spend the day at the NC Zoo in Asheboro. The zoo is home to more than 200 different species. The exhibits focus on the habitats found in Africa and North America.

Spend the afternoon in Black Mountain, NC, located east of Asheville. This small town has small shops to suit anyone’s needs. You will find hand made dulcimers, unique jewelry stores, chocolate gems, bike shop, pottery, painting, and more. After shopping we will eat at the well known Red Rocker Inn. A delectable 3 course meal you won’t want to miss!

Specialty Programs and Classes
In addition to camps, other adventure-based programs are
offered, such as backpacking, canoeing, whitewater rafting,
hiking, and more. The Outdoor Education Program also works
in conjunction with the Iredell County Sheriff's Office
to offer four sessions of D.A.R.E. Camp. This is a program
designed to educate and offer alternatives to drugs and
violence to the D.A.R.E. graduates in Iredell County. A
new focus of the Outdoor Education Program is to incorporate
and implement Environmental Education activities as well.
Self Defense & Cheerleading
These classes are offered in 3 sessions throughout the year, in coordination with the Young Champions/Cheer America organization. They are open to ages 4-14, and the classes are scheduled for Saturday mornings.
- Registration for the first session begins in January and classes run from Late-January through Mid-April.
- Registration for the second session begins in May and classes run from Mid-May through the month of August.
- Registration for the third session begins in early September and classes run from September through December.

Referee Clinics
First year referee clinics are scheduled during July & a Referee recertification clinic will be scheduled for early August. For additional clinics, visit the website for the North Carolina State Referee Association. Contact June Tutterrow for more information.
Certifications
National Youth Sports Coaches Association classes are offered for coaching certification upon request. The Parents Association for Youth Sports program for is also available upon request. Contact June Tutterrow for more information.
