The Department is operated as an enterprise fund. All landfill users, are charged a tipping fee. The Household Availability Fee accounts for 24% of the total revenues. The Department managed managed 202,357 tons of material in 2008-09, including 187,177 tons land filled, 7,133 tons of yard waste recycled to mulch and 8,048 tons recycled or shipped out for processing. Other wastes and recyclables are generated within Iredell County by various private entities.
The Department has 43 full-time employees.
