County Mourns After Sudden Death of Health Director
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of James J. Higgins, Iredell County Public Health Director, who died unexpectedly on Monday February 4, 2013. An exact cause of death has not been released. He was 58 years old and the father of two daughters.
Mr. Higgins recently became Public Health Director for Iredell County in November 2012. Since employment, he has created a great rapport with employees and agency partners. He has also offered advanced business strategies to enhance the long-term health of the agency and community. Prior to his arrival, Mr. Higgins served as the Health Director in Cherokee County where he was also highly respected. He also worked many years with hospice organizations and the NC Dept. of Health and Human Services.
In addition to being well regarded by his colleagues and friends, it was obvious to many that Mr. Higgins’ greatest pride was his two daughters. Many times he commented to his co-workers just how much he cherished them both.
Visitation and funeral plans have not yet been determined, but will be communicated as they become available.
