Rabies Alert 2/15/2013

 Iredell County Animal Services & Control, along with the Iredell County Health Department has just reported the first two (2) confirmed case of rabies in Iredell County this year. These cases involved two (2) calves in the area of Turnersburg Hwy.

All dogs, cats, and ferrets are required by State law to be vaccinated at the age of 3 months. According to the law, any unvaccinated pet or one that has an expired rabies vaccination and has an exposure to a rabid animal will be required to be euthanized or quarantined at a licensed veterinarian’s office for six months at the owner’s expense.

Citations of $75.00 per animal will be given to anyone without a current rabies vaccination for their animals.

Local Veterinarians also recommend consideration for horse owners.

Pets or stray animals with suspected exposure to rabies should be reported to Iredell County Animal Services and Control at (704) 878-5424.
