The Carolina Thread Trail has created a plan for a trail that connects Fort Dobbs to the Gregory Creek Greenway-the greenway that is accessible from the Iredell Museums site and Pump Station Road. The proposed route runs along Museum and South Chipley Ford Roads and various streets in downtown Statesville. Local collaborators and citizens helped produce the plan which is available on the Planning Department’s site.
To “complete the Thread Trail” was the number one priority regarding bicycle and pedestrian initiatives at the Lake Norman Transportation Commission held in January, winning 14 of 42 votes. The second-highest vote winner (with 10) was “to build a Charlotte-to-Mooresville trail with a Thread Trail connection”. Mooresville’s Dye Creek/Rocky River Corridor Plan could help achieve this vision.
