Orienteering Course at Stumpy Creek

Orienteering Course Open to the Public at Stumpy Creek Park

December 11th from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Any person can attend, beginner or veteran. It will be at Stumpy Creek Park and instruction and supervision will be carried out with Troop 171. It is free, no fee, and everyone will be given an opportunity to try the orienteering course which spans more than 2 and a half miles.

Stumpy Creek Park now offers an orienteering course for the public. Jaehyeong Lee, from Boy Scout Troop 171 in Mooresville, is working on receiving his Eagle and his project was to create this orienteering course. Eagle Scout is the highest rank in Boy Scouts and is honored for life, “Once an Eagle, Always an Eagle.”

The orienteering course was designed for 3 different skill levels; basic, intermediate, and advanced. You can print your own brochure or pick one up at a park kiosk. To get started on your orienteering journey all you need is a compass, pencil, and orienteering instructions. A general information brochure is available for all beginners as a tool guide for your first orienteering adventure.

Disc Golf Course

Disc Golf Course

Stumpy Creek Park has 18 holes of disc golf available for all skill levels with cement pads. The front 9 holes are mostly in the open with the back 9 in the woods. The course is challenging due to elevation changes and heavily wooded paths. Be prepared for walking and bring water with you, there are no fountains on the course. First tee is found on the right inside the first entrance into the park.

“Wow! What a course. It went from a good 9-hole course to an outstanding, top-notch 18 hole course. The new holes are challenging, but fun. It says something about a course when it's getting the best of you, yet you're still having a blast.”
