Performs driving and related duties associated with transportation of passengers. Work involves operating various vehicles for the safe and orderly transportation of passengers to and from their destinations; completing daily inspections of vehicle; fueling, interior and exterior cleaning of vehicle; maintaining accurate trip records; and assisting passengers as required. Work also involves receiving and accounting for fares and radio communications. Employee must exercise some independent judgment and initiative to ensure safe operation of vehicle and in handling unusual situations arising with passengers. Employee must also exercise considerable tact and courtesy in frequent contact with the public. Reports to the Operations Supervisor.
Minimum Education & Experience:
High school diploma or GED; at least 21 years of age with a minimum of two years driving experience. Requires possession of a valid NC driver’s license appropriate for the size vehicle to be driven (regular, Class B, or CDL).
Special Requirements:
Must be bondable and able to relate to people of all ages and economic and ethnic backgrounds. Must comply with NCDOT/FTA requirements for pre-employment, random, reasonable suspicion and post accident drug and alcohol tests as deemed appropriate by the Iredell County Area Transportation System current-approved drug testing policy. Must pass a physical examination every two years to ensure that one is physically qualified to safely operate the passenger transportation vehicle. Applicant will be asked to complete a physical driving test as a condition of employment. Must have a telephone or be able to be reached. Background checks are performed as a condition of employment and performed annually thereafter. DMV checks are performed as a condition of employment and every three months thereafter. DMV record should comply with the ICAT’s Motor Vehicle Record Check Policy. Applicant should be available to work afternoons, some weekends and some holidays, as needed.
